2 fishermen electrocuted in pond in Odisha’s Kendrapara

Kendrapara: In a tragic incident, two fishermen were electrocuted to death in a pond and another sustained injuries after coming in contact with a live electric wire at Brahmapur village under Purushottampur panchayat of Odisha’s Kendrapara district today.

The deceased have been identified as Amarendra Pradhan (45) of Brahmapur village and Gokula Dalei (40) of Arakhia village.

According to reports, one Mantu Pani of nearby Angulai village had been using the pond for fishery purpose. In order to prevent stealing of fishes from the water body, he used to fence the pond with live electric GI wires in evening and remove those in morning.

Unfortunately, Pani forgot to remove the fence this morning. While five fishermen came to the pond for fishing, two of them came in contact with the electric wires and died. In efforts to save the duo, another person also received electric shock and got injured.

Tension gripped the spot following the mishap as locals detained Mantu Pani locking him inside a room. On being informed, police reached the spot and started investigation.
