Bhubaneswar, Dec 10:
At least 2.1 lakh houses have been completely destroyed in 18 districts due to cyclone Phailin and subsequent floods according to government assessment , Panchayati Raj minister Kalpataru Das said in the state assembly during the zero hour today.
While responding to a question by the Soro MLA Surendra Paramanik, the minister informed that the state government has already sent a proposal to the Centre seeking 1.16 lakh houses for poor families under the Indira Awas Yojana in the first phase.
Das said, families in the BPL category whose houses were damaged during Cyclone Phailin or subsequent floods will get new houses under the ‘Mo Kudia’ scheme. He further said in accordance with the decision of the state government, even after death of the family head BPL families would be eligible to avail all benefits under different government schemes.
He further said collectors of 30 districts would be informed through circulars regarding the state government’s decision on allotment of houses for the cyclone and flood-affected families.
