An NGO official who accompanied the police team that rescued the children said that six of the rescued children were working in different hotels in Baramunda bus stand while the remaining nine were engaged in begging there.

The official added that most of the rescued children were of 10 to 14 years age.

Meanwhile, all the rescued children have been sent to the child welfare committee (CWC).

Benudhar Senapati, CWC member, said efforts are on to rescue more children who are deprived of education and are working in the hotels to feed their stomachs. “Primary education is mandatory for a child as it is a fundamental right of an individual. So nobody has the power to take this right away from them,” he said.
