Cuttack, Nov 27:
In a joint drive against child labour by the district Child Welfare Committee (CWC) and police, thirteen child labourers engaged in hotels, liquor shops and construction sites were rescued in Odisha’s silver city, said CWC official on Thursday.
The CWC official said that they, with the help of the police, have rescued 13 children all below the age of 14 who were engaged in various hotels and liquor outlets located near the Badambadi bus stand and construction sites on Wednesday.
The official further said the newly constituted CWC had rescued a 10-year-old boy, who was engaged as a bonded labourer, last week.
The child was engaged as bonded labourer by a couple as his father had failed to repay a loan the latter had taken from them, he added.
It may be noted here that the district administration had issued a circular last month warning of stringent action against employers of child labourers.
