Bolangir, Mar 7:
Labour department officials of Odisha’s Bolangir district with the help of Tamil Nadu police have rescued as many as 126 migrant labourers including children and women hailing from the district.
The rescued migrant labourers, who were subjected to exploitation in Tamil Nadu, arrived in Bolangir today.
“Allegedly they were sent to Tamil Nadu by Bablu Khan, a labour contractor of Kantabanjhi. The rescued labourers are from Bangomunda and Titilagarh. A case will be registered against him and appropriate action will be taken against him under section 8 of the Inter-state Migrant Workman Act,” said Madan Mohan Paika, district labour officer Bolangir.
It may be mentioned here that three months back over hundred persons from Bongamunda and Titlagarh blocks of Bolangir district had gone to Tamil Nadu to work as migrant labourers.
Following allegations by their family members of them being subjected to torture and being offered very little wages there, Labour department officials swung into action and with the help of Tamil Nadu police rescued them.
