Cuttack: A 12-year-old boy was injured after he was hit by a bullet that got accidentally fired from the service pistol of a Border Security Force (BSF) jawan at his friend’s house in High Court colony under Badambadi police limits in Odisha’s Cuttack city today.
The injured child identified as Anubhav Mohanty has been admitted to a private hospital and is out of danger.
According to family sources, Anubhav was on a visit to his friend Piyush Patra’s house. The two kids, who were playing with each other chanced upon the service pistol of Piyush’s father-Susant Patra, who serves as a BSF jawan in Kolkata.
The incident occurred when Piyush while playing with his father’s service pistol accidentally pulled the trigger and the bullet hit Anubhav on his head.
“They were playing. Somehow, the bullet got accidentally fired. My nephew is ok now. The bullet has been removed. A CT scan has been done and everything is ok now,” said Samir Mohanty, injured Anubhav’s uncle.
Badambadi police have seized the pistol and the bullet and are investigating the matter.
“Piyush Patra’s father Susant Patra had a licensed pistol. The kids after chancing upon the firearm were playing with it which accidentally fired and Anubhav was injured on his head,” informed Biranchi Narayan Pati, IIC Badambadi.
