12-year-old missing girl’s body fished out from Mahanadi river

Pinky along with five other friends had gone to the river to take bath. While bathing, one girl slipped into the deep water following which other girls jumped into the water to save her.

Sambalpur: The body of a 12-year-old, who had gone missing in Sadakghat of Mahanadi river in Sambalpur on October 6, was fished out of the water body today.

The deceased has been identified as Pinky Sharma, a student of 7th class of Hindi High School, Sambalpur.

Reportedly, a few locals spotted the body on the river bank near Chaurpur village this morning and called up police. A team of police reached the spot, seized the body and informed family members of the deceased.

On Sunday morning, Pinky along with five other friends had gone to the river to take bath. While bathing, one girl slipped into the deep water following which other girls jumped into the water to save her. However, they were swept away by strong current. Hearing their scream for help, locals on the river bank informed the fire officials. Though five of them were rescued, fire officials had failed to trace Pinky even after hours of operation.
