A 12-hour dawn-to-dusk bandh is being observed in Odisha’s Jharsuguda and Mayurbhanj districts over different demands.
The workers of Action steel factory had given the bandh call in Jharsuguda demanding payment of their pending salary and reopening of the plant at Marakuta in the district.
While shops and business establishments remained closed due to the bandh, plying of buses came to a grinding halt in Jharsuguda.
The agitators were seen picketing at bus stands, Beheramal, Bypass Square, BTM Chhak, Badmal, Collector Office and Sarbahal. Normalcy returned after police detained some of the activists from different places.
Similarly, the Tribal Students’ Association observed bandh in Mayurbhanj demanding imprinting of denomination in Ol Chiki language in new Rs 500 and Rs 2,000 currency notes. Members of the body staged road blockade at several places in Baripada.
Police have detained some activists of the association including president Suklal Marandi.
