The surrender of Maoist supporters continued in Odisha’s Malkangiri for the fourth consecutive day today as 117 more sympathisers surrendered before police here.
The villagers belonging from Bara in Mathili in the district gave up arms in the presence of Superintendent of Police Mitrabhanu Mohapatra.
The surrendered Maoist sympathisers belong to Kalimela and Padia Dalam units of the banned CPI (Maoist), sources said.
Notably, the surrender spree continued for the fourth consecutive day today with the surrender of 117 Red sympathisers, including 34 women, 14 militia members, 13 Sangam members and 7 village committee members.
While 57 Maoists supporters had surrendered before police yesterday, 19 had surrendered on Saturday and an equal number of villagers surrendered on Friday. With this, the total number Maoist supporters who surrendered in the past week have risen to 432.
On the other hand, police said that necessary arrangements will be made for them for their rehabilitation under the surrender and rehabilitation policy.
“We will rehabilitate them under the surrender and rehabilitation policy of Odisha Government and take necessary steps to ensure the welfare policies of the government reach them,” police said.
