Bonai, Jan 29:

Villagers of 11 tribal villages in an around the Khandadhar hills are up in arms against the proposal for mining in the hills.

Hundreds of people from these villages, holding placards in their hands, held a rally and sat on a dharna on Tuesday protesting against the state government’s decision to allocate the Khandadhar hills South Korean steel major Posco for iron ore mining. Former BJP state president and ex-MLA  Bonai, Jual Oram led the protestors.

The protesters shouted slogans against Posco and their placards said “Posco, go back”. They said at least 10,000 local people depended on the Khandagiri hills for their livelihood and they would not allow mining in the hills under any circumstances. Tribals claimed the hill was sacred to them.
