11 places in Odisha cross 40 deg Celsius mark; Titlagarh hottest

Bhubaneswar: Heatwave impact has turned the coastal state of Odisha into a boiling cauldron with 11 stations touching the 40 degree Celsius mark today.

As per the evening bulletin of the Met Department here, the highest temperature recorded was 44 degree Celsius in Titlagarh, followed by Bolangir at 43 degree Celsius and Jharsuguda at 42.2 degree Celsius.

Similarly, Bhawanipatna, Malkangiri and Sonepur clocked 42 degrees Celsius, while Sambalpur, Hirakud and Angul boiled at 41.9, 41.5 and 41.1 degrees Celsius, respectively.

The temperature reached 40.5 and 40.2 degrees Celsius in Sundergarh and Phulbani, separately.

While western Odisha is reeling under the impact of the scorching sun, thunderstorm warnings have been issued for a total of 15 districts today.

As per the latest weather alert, moderate thunderstorm and lightning accompanied by light rainfall and gusty wind at a speed of 40 kmph is likely in parts of Jagatsinghpur, Puri and Khordha (including the state capital Bhubaneswar) between 6:30 pm and 9:30 pm today.
