In a clear indication of Maoists fast losing their base among the tribals in Odisha’s Malkangiri district, as many as 101 Maoist supporters including 26 women surrendered before the police today.


These villagers hailing from Badigeta and Gandhigaon under Kalimela block surrendered before Superintendent of Police (SP) Mitrabhanu Mohapatra, police sources said.

The surrendered include 24 militia, the sources added.

Police distributed sarees and lungis to the surrendered persons, sources further said.

It may be noted that two days back as many as 145 Maoist supporters, hailing from Kurub and Marigata villages under Kalimela police limits in the district had surrendered before police.
