In a major crackdown on contraband, Odisha police seized about 10 quintals of ganja being illegally transported to neighbouring state and arrested 28 persons in this connection from Badaguda forest under Mathili police limits in Malkangiri district this morning.
According to reports, the arrested were carrying 56 sacks of ganja to Chhattisgarh from cutoff areas of Chitrakonda on their shoulders.
Acting on a tip-off, a police team led by Malkangiri SDPO conducted a raid and arrested them besides seizing the contraband.
The arrested are being interrogated to ascertain the involvement of inter-state ganja racket in the incident.
