Bhubaneswar: Keeping in line with UNICEF’s theme for Children’s Day 2017, #KidsTakeOver, 10 girls who had been fighting the menace of child marriage took over Radio Choklate 104 FM, Odisha’s no.1 private FM station, in Odisha capital yesterday.

From sound recording to content programming and presentation, including sound engineering, these girls performed skits and sang songs to commemorate International Children’s Day on November 20, in the presence of Juvenile Justice Board member Namrata Chadda and Communications Specialist of UNICEF state team Alka Gupta.

The girls, Sasmita Moharana, Diptymayee Pala, Chandini Nayak, Madhusmita Sahoo, Mitanjali Nayak, Sarmista Nayak, Gitanjali Panda, Rojalin Behera, Pragyan Paramita Swain and Manini Rout, are change agents in the society and took up the cudgels  preventing child marriages in and around them in Odisha.

This hour-long special programme was organised in association with Action Aid and UNICEF India and aired at 7 pm on Radio Choklate last evening.

UNICEF is organising events all over the world by roping in sports celebrities such as David Beckham and Sachin Tendulkar to encourage youngsters to help address the plight of less fortunate children, prevent malaise such as child labour and promote child welfare.
