Cuttack, May 19:
Another instance of medical negligence came to fore at state-run SCB Medical College and Hospital where a woman patient died after being allegedly administered with a wrong injection by the hospital staff last night.
The victim was identified as Minati Mallick, wife of Mangaraj Mallick of Garapur village of Kendrapara district. She died nine hours after being injected at the hospital. The husband of the deceased alleged the medical staff, doctors of negligence and carelessness that claimed his wife’s life.
According to reports, Ailing Minati was admitted to medicine ward of the SCB hospital two days ago after she complained of head spinning and vomiting at home. Her husband Mangaraj had gone to medicine store to bring an injection prescribed by the doctor. After he returned the hospital with the prescribed injection, he came to know that his wife had already been administered the injection. He puzzled how his wife was injected without the prescribed injection. When he asked the medical staff present at the bed, one of the staff admitted the mistake. To avoid the fatality, the patient was administered another injection after her condition deteriorated. However, her condition turned critical. Later, Mangaraj was asked to bring medicine worth Rs 1,000. As a bed in the ICU could not be arranged for Minati within two hours, she breathed her last at around 11 pm.
A written complaint has been filed with the medical outpost by Mangaraj demanding strong action against the hospital employees whose negligence claimed his wife’s life at the hospital.
There was no statement from the hospital authorities till filing of the report.
