Women Techmakers- Bhubaneswar in association with Google Developer Group today organised International Women’s Day meet up at IIT Bhubaneswar.
Organised on a theme – “Our Time to Lead”, the event was attended by about 150 women participants.
The event started with a keynote by Shradha Padhi of KSOM (KIIT School of Management) who shared her experience and views about working women in industry. It was followed by technical keynote by Minerva Panda, Lead at Women TechMakers (WTM) who mentioned about the group and their objectives to inspire more women to choose technology as a career.
It was followed by an address by cofounder of NP2 Technologies Ipshita Sahoo on “Hardships faced by Women Entrepreneurs” that recounted on her own experience.
Besides, there was a stimulating panel discussion with panellists of repute such as Director of Brilliant Tutorials Dr. Poonam Baliarsingh, Former Bank of America VP Lucy Parida, Ipshita Sahoo, Fidelity Investments’s Sapna Bharalawala and Asst Professor of ITER Sipra Sahoo. The discussion was moderated by Pallavi Dhanuka, a Senior Developer at Mindfire Solutions.
It focussed on the reasons that limit the presence of women in technology sector and the need of leadership in technology entrepreneurship.
The participants also conducted an engaging and interactive coding and doodling game with the attendees dividing them into small groups of four. Selfie contest added to the fun.
The winners were announced by the judge panel and the first three teams received gifts and T-shirts from Google.
It may be mentioned here that Google’s Women Techmakers program was started to provide visibility, community and resources for women in technology. It’s an effort by Google to draw more women towards technology. The program is supported by local Google Developer Groups and the WTM Bhubaneswar is supported by Google Developers Group of Bhubaneswar (GDG BBSR).
