Keonjhar, Apr 28:

A woman and her 15-year-old daughter were hacked to death by a youth with an axe reportedly on suspicion of practising sorcery at Ragadisahi in Telkoi area of Odisha’s Keonjhar district late last night.

The deceased were identified as Kalabati Dalanaik and her daughter Seema.

The woman’s husband and son sustained critical injuries in the attack and were admitted to Telkoi hospital. Their condition is stated to be critical, sources said.

According to reports, Rinku Sahu, the accused, was ill for the last several days for which he was suspecting the family of practising witchcraft leading to deterioration in his health condition.

In an act of revenge, Rinku entered into their house with an axe at around 1 am and hacked Kalabati and Seema to death while they were sleeping.

Rinku also attacked Kalabati’s husband and son injuring them grievously.

On being informed, Telkoi police reached the spot, seized the bodies for post-mortem and arrested the accused.

“A case has been registered into the incident and investigation is on. Past enmity and suspicion of practising sorcery led to the murder,” said Sriharsha Mishra, SDPO, Keonjhar.
