Angered by his wife opposing selling of rice to buy liquor, a man poured kerosene and burned her in Mayurbhanj district of Odisha.
The incident has taken place in Pedagadi village under Kaptipada police station in Mayurbhanj district, yesterday.
The critically burned woman, Rasmita Naik, was first admitted to health centre here and later shifted to district headquarters hospital, late night.
Srikant was angry when Rasmita stopped him from selling rice to purchase alcohol. Following this an altercation ensued and an infuriated Srikant set his wife ablaze.
“My husband tried to sell rice to purchase liquor. When I opposed him, he poured kerosene and set me ablaze”, Rasmita, who is undergoing treatment, said.
The neighbours saved the woman and rushed her to hospital in a critical condition. The accused husband is absconding. Police are investigating the case.
