Cuttack, Mar 15:
In a tragic incident, a woman and her minor boy were charred to death in a fire at Tinigharia Nuasahi under Madhupatna police station limits in Odisha’s Cuttack.
According to reports, locals informed police and fire department after witnessing smoke coming out of the house at around 11 am today. By the time the fire tenders reached the spot, the woman and her two and half-year-old son were dead.
The deceased have been identified as Madhusmita Sahu and her minor boy Rahul. Her husband—Laxman—has been detained at Madhupatna police station for interrogation.
Sources said that the couple had married four years ago and they had moved to a rented house in Nuasahi area here six months ago.
While Madhusmita is a resident of Madhupatna area, Laxman hails from Puri.
Though the reason of blaze is unknown, preliminary investigation revealed that the duo might have committed suicide by pouring inflammable material on them.
“My daughter had called up this morning. She told me that she had a quarrel with her husband over her son’s health as he was unwell. I asked her to come over to my place but she refused straight away. She was sounding low,” Madhusmita’s mother said.
Meanwhile, police have begun investigation into the incident.
