Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today announced ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh each for the family of the five persons killed in the tragic road mishap at Udala in Mayurbhanj district.
Patnaik expressed his deepest condolences over the death of the five people when a pickup van in which they were travelling overturned on Sunday morning.
The deceased were identified as Reena Singh (35), Laxmi Singh (25), Harihar Nayak (27), Sridhar Mahalik (45) and Murali Nayak (40).
The mishap occurred at around 10 am near Dama Sahi Chhak under Udala police limits when the victims, all labourers, were on their way to Jaida village for agriculture work. Suddenly the pickup van lost control and turned turtle killing three on the spot and left several critically injured.
Later in the day, two others who were undergoing treatment at Udala Sub-divisional hospital succumbed to injuries.
Thirteen others critically injured in the accident are still undergoing treatment at the hospital.
