Odisha Sun Times Bureau
Bhubaneswar, Aug 15:

Queering pitch for the man she had described as her ‘god’ only days ago,  the woman who had accompanied self-styled god man Srimad Sarathi Baba alias Santosh Raula to Hyderabad today filed an FIR with the Odisha Crime Branch police claiming she was forced by him through two of his women associates to file the FIR at Mangalabag police station accusing four persons of blackmailing her.

Sarathi Baba: Fate sealed?

In her FIR lodged with the Crime Branch police today, the girl claimed the Baba, through his women associates, had threatened her with life. He had made an offer of Rs 10 lakh to her to keep her mouth shut and threatened to kill her if she didn’t keep mum and opened her mouth against him.

She had named four persons – Kailash, Kishor, Nandi and Khaga – in her earlier FIR as the ones she faced the threat from and sought police protection. But with her FIR lodged with the Crime Branch police today, she has sealed the fate of the Baba.

Notably, two women with their faces covered, one identifying herself as Santilata Das and claiming to be the aunt of the medico, went to the Managalabag police station on August 7 evening to lodge an FIR on behalf the complainant in which she had claimed that her life was under threat and she needed police protection.

Following this, DCP Cuttack Sanjiv Aurora sent IIC Mahila police station Cuttack and IIC Mangalabag to the medico’s hostel to verify the authenticity of the FIR filed by the woman on her behalf. On being confirmed that it was her FIR, the police registered a case under sections 506 and 34 of IPC and 67( A) of the IT Act.

In view of the security threat, she was taken from her hostel room in SCB Medical College to her home in Paradip with full police protection. Policemen were posted at her Paradip home too.

Yesterday, she was brought to Cuttack from her Paradip home by the police to record her statement before magistrate Mamata Mohanty under section 164 of the CrPC.

  1. It is now amply clear that the Baba had sex with the medical student. The Baba also probably had sex with many others, both married and unmarried, in his ashram. My belief that women of Odisha are relatively more conservative and rarely engage in prostitution unlike other advanced states of India, has been proved wrong. Hitherto, cops should not blindly accept FIR of Odia women if ever they file against any men under any act and should not blindly arrest men on false presumption, without verifying the facts alleged in such FIRs. Police should be more cautious especially in family related cases where wives complain against their in-laws under IPC 498A alleging torture, as there is all likelihood of such cases proving to be false during investigation. It is also very likely that such women have been unduly influenced by fun and money from their extra marital affairs and to cover up such acts, they resort to complaint against their in-laws.
