Odisha police has arrested two persons in the Keonjhar witch hunting case, informed Crime Branch ADG B K Sharma today.
Six members of a tribal family, including a three-year old girl, were brutally killed and two others critically injured in a concerted attack in a remote village atop the Lahanda hills in Joda-Barbil area on Sunday night. Fellow villagers are believed to have perpetrated the crime suspecting the family to be practicing witchcraft.
Sharma said a large group was behind the killings and police have identified five to seven of them. A massive manhunt has been launched to nab them, he said.
The ADG said a three-member team of the State Forensic Laboratory left for the spot of the killings today. They will assist the police in collecting evidence, he added.
On the other hand, Lahanda hill is bereft of humans fearing arrests.

While the assailants had killed Gura Munda (35), his wife Budhni Munda (30), sons Sunil Munda (16) and Kushanath (10) and two daughters Sambhari (12) and Namita (3), they had critically injured two other family members Ganit Munda (18) and Shambhu Munda (9) with sharp weapons.
The two are currently undergoing treatment at the district headquarters hospital where their condition is stated to be critical.
The State Police have accorded Red Flag category status to this heinous killing.
