Almost a week after an Odisha legislator received death threat through text messages, local police today arrested two persons for their alleged complicity in the case.
Sindhekela police arrested two persons for sending death threat SMSs to the Kantabanji BJD MLA Haji Mohammad Ayub Khan on November 23.
The accused belong to Chandutara village under Sindhekela police limits in Bolangir district.
The duo impersonating as Maoists had allegedly sent text messages on the MLA’s mobile phone and warned to kill him within 10 days.
On the following day of receipt of the SMSs, the legislator registered a case at Kantabanji police station. The police began investigation into the case.
Khan got the messages in a gap of nearly six hours on that day while he was in a review meeting. The complainant got to know about the threat messages at night only after winding up the days work.
“On November 23, I received two SMSs, one at 12.27 pm and another at 6.12 pm, while I was in a review meeting. I found the threatening message when I checked the mobile phone at around 8 pm. The sender had warned to kill me within 10 days. I reported the matter at the Kantabanji police station on November 24,” the legislator had said.
