Jharsuguda: A local court in Odisha’s Jharsuguda today convicted a tuition teacher for raping a minor girl over three years ago.
Special Judge-cum-Additional District and Sessions Judge Soumendra Kumar Rajguru pronounced the judgement convicting the accused Soujan Nanda to life imprisonment and imposed a collective fine of Rs 12, 000.
The penalty, thus realised, will be given to the minor Dalit girl.
The accused has been punished under section 376 (2)(I) of IPC for life and fine of Rs 5000, in default a rigorous imprisonment (RI) for one year. This apart, he has been awarded life imprisonment under section 6 of POCSO Act and a fine of Rs 5, 000, in default of one year RI. Similarly, he has been sentenced to six months under section 23 of Juvenile Justice Act, one year under section 3 (I)(II)(X) of ST/SC Act imprisonment and a fine of Rs 2000, in default an additional six months imprisonment.
Notably, the six-year-old victim used to go to the residence of accused at RR Colony in Brundamal in Jharsuguda district for tuition. On February 4, 2014, the victim allegedly raped the minor girl following which the victim’s mother filed a complaint with Badmal police station.
