Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) of Dhenkanal Forest Division Pradip Kumar Sahu on Wednesday suspended two forest department staffers for dereliction of duty leading to the death of an elephant in Hindol jungle area of Odisha.
An adult elephant was found dead, killed by smugglers for its tusks in Dhenkanal district, Hindol jungle area of Odisha on Tuesday.
The elephant has been shot dead by the smugglers and they had sawed off both the tusks of the elephant.
Sahu has suspended forester Ajit Dalai and forest guard Divya Singh Behera of Kariboria forest area.
The forest officials had found the body of the elephant March 8 and had started investigations. Notably, within a week, two elephants have been killed in the area.
