Bhubaneswar, Aug 15:
After being denied permission to participate in the state-level Independence Day parade in Odisha capital, the transgenders today displayed their patriotism but at a different venue.
The transgenders today marched to the beats of drums and tunes near the Durga Mandap in Nayapally area in the city along with some school children. The members of the third gender were to participate in the state level parade but the last moment denial of permission had left them frustrated.
They had practiced for nearly three weeks for the big event. The 30-member marching contingent was denied permission on the ground that their preparation was not up to the mark.
Home Department denied permission to them on the grounds of inadequate practice.
“We feel proud to march with the school children. We felt disheartened after the government denied permission to participate in the state level parade. We would continue our practice so that we would be granted permission next time,” a transgender expressed.
“We have full confidence that we will make it one day. Though we were not given permission to participate in the parade today, we would continue our efforts and make our way to the parade on January 26,” another transgender said.
