Bhubaneswar: Two members of a family were run over by a speeding train this morning on the outskirts of Odisha capital while crossing the railway track.
As per reports, a woman and her granddaughter were mowed down by a speeding train while they were crossing over to the other side of the platform near Patia railway station.
Sources said, five members of a family from Hindol in Dhenkanal district were on their way to Puri to have darshan of Lord Jagannath. While three members had crossed over, two members of the group got stranded in the middle of the track owing which an Express train ran over the duo.
The Government Railway Police (GRP) was informed about the incident. Later, the mangled bodies were recovered and sent for post-mortem.
GRP personnel from Mancheswar have begun investigation into the incident.
The woman has been identified as Asanti Das (50) who was helping her 13-month-old granddaughter to get to the other side of the tracks.
GRP sources said the minor girl hails from Dudurkut village under Balimi police limits in Dhenkanal district and the girl’s maternal grandmother is from Tutupada under Hindol police limits in the district.
“The deceased woman who was holding the little kid was crossing track at Patia railway station to board the Puri train. But, Guwahati-Bangalore Express train dashed them while they were crossing the track at around 9.20 am,” an official said.
