Tension is mounting in Tikhiri village under Mahakalpada assembly constituency on Odisha’s Kendrapara district since evening after an angry mob comprising BJP supporters intercepted and detained a polling party carrying EVMs in a vehicle.
The vehicle carrying the EVMs after the polling concluded late this evening did not have uniformed security personnel, fuelling suspicion among the people opposition party activists.
The polling party was detained for an hour.
Police forces have been rushed to the spot to tackle the situation.
“Police team led by Sub divisional police officer has rushed to the spot”, SP Rabi Narayan Behera said adding that details are awaited
Bijoy Mohapatra, the BJP candidate from the assembly seat said, “The polling personnel were not accompanied by uniformed security staff as per the mandatory provisions. People suspected foul play and that’s why they had stopped it”, he said adding, “I am on my way to the spot to see whether there was any mala fide intention on part of the polling party or not.”
