Kendrapara, May 12 :
There is palpable tension in district headquarter town of Kendrapara in Odisha after a 19-year-old youth was killed and another injured when a speeding Indigo car hit the duo today at the hospital junction in the heart of the township here.
Following tension in the locality, armed policemen have been deployed at the site to prevent any possible breach of peace.
The deceased has been identified as Mahesh Das (19), a resident of Jayipura locality of the township while the injured Harekrushna Parida (20), belongs to Sunailo here.
Parida was shifted to a hospital in Cuttack in a critical condition.
The FIR lodged by deceased’s mother, however, alleged it was an case of murder and that two local youths perpetrated the crime to settle an old enmity.
Kendrapara Superintendent of Police, Rabi Narayan Behera said “An FIR has been lodged with the police in this connection by deceased’s mother. Two persons have been accused of committing the crime. Search is on to nab the culprits. Two of the family members of the suspects have already been detained by police for interrogation. Police are keeping close watch on the situation as situation is tense at the spot of the hit-and-run incident”.
