Cuttack: The Kunduli gang rape victim was today discharged from SCB Hospital in Odisha’s Cuttack amid tension.
While police was on the opinion that only the minor girl’s mother can accompany her in the vehicle to return home, her family members demanded that her aunt be allowed to go with her too.
Supporting the demand, Koraput MLA Krushna Chandra Sagaria and his supporters staged a dharna and later withdrew it after being pacified by police.
The cops reportedly had to resort to mild lathicharge in order to bring back normalcy. She was eventually allowed to leave the hospital along with her mother and aunt.
On the other hand, a doctor said the family members of the girl didn’t allow for her further treatment.
“The victim’s family misinterpreted that she was undergoing treatment for mental illness whereas she was being treated at Adolescence and Child Care unit. She would have been kept under observation for 10 more days. However, she is physically fine,” said Dr Sri Prasad Mohanty, head of the team of doctors treating the girl.
Notably, the girl was shifted to SCB Medical College & Hospital from Saheed Laxman Nayak Medical College & Hospital in Koraput on November 19 after her health condition deteriorated. She was later admitted to the ICU of Medicine department of the hospital.
It may be recalled here that the class-IX student of Kunduli in Koraput district was allegedly gang raped by a group of security personnel on October 10 while returning from school.
A case under Sections 376 (D) and 377 of IPC and Section 6 of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act had been registered.
