Telemedicine centre to open in Sishu Bhawan

With an aim to reduce child mortality and provide specialist advice, a telemedicine centre will come up this year in the premier Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Post Graduate Institute of Paediatrics or Sishu Bhawan in Cuttack connecting it to all district hospitals in Odisha via satellite.

Built at a cost of Rs 25 lakh, doctors from the pediatric surgery and pediatric medicine departments will treat patients online for two hours every day, according reports.

Pune based Centre for Development of Advance Computing (C-DAC) has been given the responsibility for the telemedicine centre, according to a letter by the state health department to the hospital.

This will be 35th telemedicine centre in the state. The centre will work for two hours every day giving medical attention to nearly 50 children, according to a senior doctor in Sishu Bhawan.

Medical students will be able to contact and receive help from doctors outside the state. Training facility by nurses and technicians though the satellite based telemedicine centre.
