Hinjilikatu, Jul 6:
Reports of a 13-year old minor girl being sold off by her mother for Rs 40,000 in a village in the constituency of Odisha Chief Minister is giving sleepless nights both to the police and administration here.
Police has detained the mother of the minor girl and the broker involved in the alleged sale of the minor girl.
The shocking incident has taken place at Badasahi in Samarjhola village under Hinjilikatu police limits.
The mother, identified as Bhagya Gouda, has allegedly sold off her 13-year old daughter. While the incident took place on Saturday evening, the police began its investigations in the case on Sunday. Police, along with BDO Manoj Kumar Panda, visited the village and interrogated Bhagya Gouda, the mother of the minor girl. When she did not give satisfactory replies to their queries, the police brought Bhagya and Hina Sethi, the suspected broker, to the police station for interrogation.
However, Bhagya during interrogations is learnt to have told the police that she hasn’t sold her daughter and claimed that her daughter had gone to her maternal grandparents’ place Chandiput in Khurda district.
Not satisfied with her replies, the police have left for Khurda with Bhagya and the suspected broke to trace the minor, said police sources.
Bhagya had allegedly sold her first daughter too. When she was trying to forcibly send her second daughter in an auto rickshaw, some villagers had objected after which the auto rickshaw had left the place.
It’s alleged that Bhagya forcibly sent the child to a broker in the auto rickshaw which had again come back at around 10 PM in the night.
