Kendrapara, Jul 2:
The teacher responsible for locking away a sleeping seven year old girl student inside her classroom in Hariabanka primary school under Kharinasi Panchayat in Odisha’s Kendrapara district has been suspended, official sources said today.
Kendrapara District Education Officer (DEO) confirmed action following public outrage.
Angry villagers had staged a protest and had stopped the teachers from entering into the school on Monday demanding stern action against the guilty.
“It was recklessness and irresponsibility on parts of the school teachers that led to this unfortunate incident. While a teacher has been suspended, salary payment of three other teachers has been held up as a disciplinary measure as they had left the school before the scheduled closure hour,” said DEO Sangram Sahu.
The seven year old Reeta faced a four hour horrifying ordeal after teachers of a government-run upper primary school left her all alone inside a classroom by locking up the building.
She was later rescued by villagers after she woke up, found herself locked and started crying aloud as we reported here: http://odishasuntimes.com/133674/sleeping-class-two-student-locked-away-in-odisha-school/
