Bhubaneswar, Aug 9:
While the Odisha government is trying its best to get the Smart City status for Bhubaneswar, no city in the state figures in the top 250 positions in the country, a recent survey has pointed out. The capital city, which is way ahead of others in the race to be named as Smart City, has been ranked a lowly 331.
The Union Urban ministry had recently conducted a survey on the status of sanitation, open air defecation, solid waste management, waste water treatment, purity of drinking water, quality of underground water, water resources and death due to water-borne diseases in 476 class-I cities in 31 states and Union Territories, including 10 from Odisha, with a population of above one lakh in the country.
As per the survey report, Bhubaneswar is placed in 331st position. The capital city, in terms of open air defecation and solid waste management, is far behind the other cities.
Out of the 10 cities of Odisha, Cuttack and Puri have been placed at 296th and 298th position while Sambalpur is placed at 467th place.
The ministry had conducted the survey to know the status of these cities after eight months of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan launched by the Centre.
