Fire department personnel managed to rescue the body of a young woman this morning after hours-long effort in river Subarnarekha in Odisha’s Balasore district while another youth is still missing.
A couple had reportedly committed suicide by jumping into the river on Sunday afternoon.
According to reports, a youth identified as Soumya Ranjan Dhal (25) of Sungamunha village and a woman identified as Lilimani Sethy (18) of Bishnupur village under Baliapal police limits who was pursuing her intermediate in Krushna Chandra Pipili Mahavidyalaya were talking on the banks of Subarnarekha yesterday at around 5 pm.
However, the woman jumped into the river followed by the youth due to unknown reasons.
The duo was spotted drowning holding each other’s hand.
The incident came to light after a cousin sister of the drowning woman raised an alarm and locals informed the fire office.
However, the fire personnel had to suspend the rescue operation following the darkness yesterday evening.
The search operation resumed early morning and the fire personnel managed to recover the body the girl and the operation was on for the youth.
People suspect it to be a love-related suicide.
