Surrendered Maoists in Odisha appear for exam to pursue degree courses

Malkangiri: Over a 100 Maoists, who have surrendered before police to join the mainstream of society, appeared for the entrance examination here for admission into degree courses offered by the IGNOU.

Total 103 surrendered Maoists attended the final entrance test at Central School on Thursday in Malkangiri through Bachelor’s Preparatory Programme (BPP) amidst tight security.

After clearing the test, the candidates will be eligible for admission into various bachelor’s degree courses at Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU).

The Maoists after surrendering before the police had prepared in the past six months for the examination. IGNOU Regional Director B Rajgopal monitored the examination.

The surrendered Maoists can appear for the examination again if any of them fails to qualify the test, said Rajgopal.

He suggested the candidates to set an example for others pursuing education and forgetting their past life.
