Bhubaneswar, Oct 21:
The state BJP today accused the state government of making false propaganda to divert public attention from its abject failure to provide relief materials to the affected people in the twin calamities.
“The tall claims of the government are only a false propaganda with the authorities patting themselves on each other’s backs,” senior BJP leader Biswa Bhusan Harichandan said at a press conference here.
Harichandan said although people in the affected areas are facing the worst of times, the government has not been able to reach out to the victims and provide them with the much-needed relief materials.
“In Bhadrak, which has witnessed a severe flood triggered by Cyclone Phailin, people had been given only two kilos of rice and 200 gm of flattened rice (chuda). Despite having at its disposal adequate personnel from the three wings of the armed forces along with the National Disaster Rapid Force it has failed to extend help to the affected people in time,” said the former minister.
Stating that the government should avoid indulging in cheap politics of propaganda and work to ease the sufferings of the people, Harichandan demanded restoration of power in the affected areas on war footing and proper damage assessment of the houses destroyed in the disaster.
Besides, he demanded the formation of an all-party committee entrusted with the task of distribution of relief assistance to ensure every deserving person is covered.
