Bhubaneswar, Feb 2:
Intensifying his demand for the resignation of chief minister Naveen Patnaik on the mining scam, state BJP president KV Singhdeo today said the party will organise agitational programmes in each district headquarters across the state if the chief minister refused to bow to the demand.
“The Shah Commission report published recently has made it clear that the illegal mining in the state worth lakhs of crores of rupees took place under the very nose of the government. The report says that the government officials and politicians were involved in the scam. So, the chief minister has no right to continue in the office. The case should be handed over to CBI immediately,” said Singhdeo in a press release.
Stating that he had raised the issue in the Assembly way back in 2009, the BJP president said that Patnaik had then flatly denied that there was any mining scam in the state.
“The chief minister had handed over the mining scam case to the vigilance and issued show cause notices to some miners. The move of the government proved that it wanted to shield the miners and the politicians involved in the scam,” said Singhdeo.
He also asked the chief minister where the law was during that period. “The chief minster always says that law will take its own course. But, there are many instances, where the law has not taken its own course and has only served the purpose of government,” said the BJP president.
