Bhubaneswar, Jan 1:
Concerned over the growing Naxal violence in Odisha especially in the southern districts, the state government has convened a Unified Command Meeting here on January 6 to discuss the strategy to deal with this challenge.
The meeting, to be presided over by chief secretary JK Mohapatra, would also discuss issues relating to the socio-economic development of the areas affected by Maoist activities and violence.
Meanwhile, a team of senior police officials including Sunil Roy, director (Intelligence), Soumendra Priyadarshi, IG (Operation) and Yashwant Jethwa, IG, Southwestern Range visited Malkangiri and held discussions with senior officials of the security forces deployed there.
It may be mentioned that the left wing ultras have intensified their terror campaign in the south Odisha districts by killing a number of tribal villagers branding them as police informers.
To assert their supremacy, the ultras are also trying to stop all developmental work in these areas by using violent means.
