Bhubaneswar, Feb 14:
Former Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) president and senior Congress leader Niranjan Patnaik has described incumbent OPCC president Jayadev Jena and Union minister Srikant Jena as ‘assets’ of the Congress party.
Asked for his reactions on the announcement of the newly constituted Congress campaign committee for Odisha by the AICC,the senior Congress leader said the committee was ‘welcome’ while in the same breath recalling that the same leaders of the party had managed the party’s campaign during the recent municipal elections.
On being asked if he felt bad on not being included in the campaign committee, Patnaik retorted that after having worked as the PCC president for sometime, becoming a member of the campaign committee was not important for him.
The sarcasm-laced comment of Patnaik, who has earlier made it clear that he would not contest the coming Assembly elections under the leadership of Jayadev Jena, is being seen as one more sign that the party is yet to put its house in the state.
The 24-member campaign committee of the Congress in Odisha to be headed by Union minister Srikant Jena announced by the AICC Thursday evening has excluded two senior leaders of the party in the state: former chief minister and Sundargarh MP Hemananda Biswal and former PCC chief Niranjan Patnaik.
