Bhubaneswar, Aug 13:
State Pollution Control Board (SPCB) has served a closure notice on the 2X150 MW thermal power plant operated by Bhushan Energy Limited at Narendrapur village in Dhenkanal.
“The plant premises of Bhushan will be sealed tomorrow as per the orders of the Board. We have made arrangements, including police bandobast, to close the plant,” said Sitikanta Mishra, Regional officer of SPCB at Angul.
In the notice served on the company on Tuesday, SPCB has asked Bhushan, one of the worst offenders on the pollution front, to close the plant with immediate effect. It has asked the company to take a series of pollution control measures before the plant can be reopened.
Among the measures insisted upon by the Board are complete removal of ash from the work zone, drains and silo area; putting in place an environmentally sound solid waste management system of adequate capacity at the active dump site at Shibpur to prevent flow of contaminated run-off and wash out material from the dumpsite to the Kisinda nalla and provision of adequate space for disposal of ash supported with proper environmental safeguard measures at the dump site.
A company spokesperson said it would seek some time from SPCB to put these measures in place.
