The Odisha government has announced a special package for the SCB Medical College and Hospital and the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Post Graduate Institute of Paediatrics (Sishu Bhawan) in Cuttack.
Sources in the Health department said the state government has decided to add 120 beds in various wards of the SCB Medical College and Hospital including 12 additional beds in the Casualty ward, 30 in Surgery, 16 in Cardiology, 20 in Plastic Surgery and 24 in Anaesthesia wards.
The total number of beds at the SCB Medical College & Hospital which stood at 215 in 1933, has gone up 1227 beds at present.
Besides, the government has also decided to add 50 more beds to the existing capacity of 50 beds in the ICU ward.
While 20 beds would be put in place in the ICU ward within a week, the remaining 30 beds would be added over the next three months.
Apart from the SCB Hospital, the government has also decided to add 200 beds in Sishu Bhawan which has 450 beds at present.
There would 24 additional beds in the ICU ward for the newborn, which presently has a total of 24 beds.
While provision for 12 beds would be made within a week, the remaining 12 beds would be arranged over the next three months.
This apart, the government has also decided to increase the seats in the Post Graduate courses and also take up development of other infrastructure like construction of hostels for the students and staff quarters for the doctors within the premises of these two hospitals, the sources added.
