The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Odisha Crime Branch today arrested an accountant of a premier health research institute in the capital city on fraud charges.
The anti-corruption sleuths arrested the accountant of Regional Medical Research Centre (RMRC) here in connection with Rs 1.22 crore financial misappropriations.
The EOW arrested the accountant Dilip Mohanty in connection with Rs 1.22 crore fraud, Crime Branch Special DG BK Sharma said.
The officials are investigating the involvement of other staff in the embezzlement of funds, sources said.
According to sources, the misappropriation came to the fore during a special audit of the accounts of RMRC exposing the involvement of Dilip in swindling of funds. Following this, the accused returned Rs 46 lakh to the institution.
The arrest was made after the research institute lodged a complaint with the EOW against the accountant.
