Re-polling was today held at 15 booths of Pokharigaon gram panchayat under Niali block of Odisha’s Cuttack district as voting was earlier cancelled during rural elections due to violence.
Security was tightened to ensure smooth conduct of the polls without any untoward incident.
As many as 4 DSPs, 10 Inspectors, 10 Sub-Inspectors and 10 ASIs were deployed at these polling booths.
Besides, the entire voting process has been videographed.
Notably, polls were cancelled at 6 booths of the panchayat on February 21 due to violence. Alleging booth rigging at several polling centres, some miscreants allegedly looted ballot boxes from few booths.
Following the incident, the State Election Commission had ordered for re-polling at 6 booths of the panchayat on February 22 which was also marred by violence.
Eventually, the commission decided for re-polling at 15 booths of the panchayat out of 23.
