Cuttack, Oct 18:
The Revenue Divisional Commissioner (Central Division) Arabinda Padhee has ordered a probe into the allegations of loot of relief materials made by the opposition Congress against the ruling BJD corporators of the city.
“I have ordered my secretary to conduct an enquiry into the allegation and submit a report immediately,” said Padhee who is now in Baleswar district supervising rescue and relief operations.
The city unit of Congress had alleged that some BJD corporates had looted relief materials procured by the civic body for distribution among cyclone victims.
Stringent action would be taken against the guilty, the RDC said, adding that the Cuttack district administration had already taken several precautionary measures to prevent any such incident.
Meanwhile, district collector Girish SN has also asked the city civic body authorities to submit a report detailing each recipient and the amount of relief materials they have received, particularly of those items supplied by the district administration.
The district administration had supplied around 200 quintals of rice and other materials to Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) as relief to be distributed among some 40,000 evacuees.
The Congress has alleged that despite CMC’s announcement of opening of four kitchens to provide free cooked food to the evacuees for three days, it was not done for a single day and some influential BJD corporators had forcibly taken away the relief materials from the CMC office.
The City Congress on Wednesday had filed a complaint with the Purighat police station seeking investigation into the alleged looting of relief material and action against the accused persons. (PTI)
