Bhubaneswar, Mar 28:
Sujit Sahu, prime accused in the posting of pictures of over 100 students of Rama Devi (RD) Women’s University on Facebook with derogatory remarks, was arrested last night, informed Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Twitter.
“Prime accused Sujit Sahu in the cyber crime case arrested last night. Hope this serves as a strong deterrent & such acts are not repeated,” Patnaik tweeted.
Sahu was arrested by Crime Branch (CB) from Mahanga in Cuttack district, CB special DG BK Sharma said.
The Chief Minister had yesterday ordered for a Crime Branch probe into the incident following which an eight-member special team was constituted for investigation.
The probe order came after 40 girl students of RD Women’s University, Sailabala Women’s College and Kamala Nehru Women’s College, led by Biju Chhatra Janata Dal (BCJD) president Byomkesh Ray, met Patnaik at the Odisha Assembly demanding Crime Branch investigation into the matter.
Notably, photographs of over 100 students of the varsity were posted on Aarohi Creations’ Facebook page with objectionable caption “sex contest”.
Several girl students had filed a complaint with Saheed Nagar police against Aarohi Creations’ chief Sujit Sahu.
Sources said, a few days back under the garb of conducting a display picture competition among the students, Sahu had visited the varsity.
After a few days of Sahu’s visit to the varsity campus, pictures of several students were seen posted on social networking site Facebook with objectionable remarks against them.
