The prime accused in the rape and murder of a minor girl in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district was today forwarded to court.
The accused identified as Chumuru Topno hailing from Sanakumram village was arrested and forwarded to court today, police said.
“The accused Chumuru Topno has been arrested and forwarded to court. The accused strangled the minor girl after raping her. We have seized the articles used in the murder,” Rairangpur sub-divisional police officer Mohanpani Karuan said.
It may be mentioned that the 10-year-old tribal girl, who was studying in Class V, was allegedly raped and murdered in Sanakiajang forest under Tiring police station limits on Thursday while Holi was being celebrated.
The girl, a resident of Manpur village in East Singhbhum district in neighbouring Jharkhand, was staying with her relatives and studying in the village school.
According to reports, the girl had gone a cycle to the village bus stop to receive his uncle on Thursday morning who had visited his relative’s place. However, her uncle did not find her at the bus stop and walked down to his house at Sanakumram village.
When he did not find his neice at home, the family members began searching for her. All their efforts went in vain. Later, locals found her body in Sanakiajang forest close to the bus stop.
The family members lodged a complaint at the local police station following which two persons were detained for questioning.
