With just a day left for campaigning for the second and final phase polls in Odisha onApril 17, Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi is visiting the state today for a last ditch effort to improve the fortune of party candidates in Jagatsinghpur district.
Odisha Congress is pinning its hopes on the Nehru-Gandhi scion to raise the winning chances of its candidates in this BJD bastion.
“The voters in the district as well as neighbouring areas are excited to see the youth icon in person and we expect a heavy footfall at the ground on Monday,” said Odisha Congress in-charge BK Hariprasad.
In Jagatsinghpur, the party has fielded sitting MP Bibhuprasad Tarai, who has joined Congress after deserting his old party CPI, for the Lok Sabha seat while Chiranjeev Biswal and Bapi Sarkhel are contesting against BJD heavyweights Bishnu Das and Dr Damodar Rout of BJD respectively for the Jagatsinghpur and Paradip Assembly seats in this district.
Rahul is visiting the state for the second time in the past fortnight.
He had addressed his last rallies in the state in Koraput and Nabrangpur on March 31.
