Bhubaneswar, Feb 8:
Congress vice president and campaign committee chief, Rahul Gandhi will arrive here on Sunday on a two-day visit to the state.
Briefing newsmen here, president of the Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) Jayadev Jena said Rahul will head straight from the airport to Nehru Yuva Kendra here, for an interaction with students and youths.
Later at around noon, he will leave for Bhatapada near Salepur in Cuttack by road to address a public meeting. He will hold road shows at several places before returning to Bhubaneswar.
On Monday, he will interact with the party leaders, students and members from minority groups in Bhubaneswar.
As per the earlier tour schedule, the Congress Vice President was to address meetings at Salipur in Cuttack district, Duburi in Jajpur district, coal town of Talcher, Khariar Road in Nuapada district, Bisam Katak in Rayagada district and Brahmapur town in Ganjam district.
However, the schedule was shelved due to security issues at southern and western part of the state. However, meetings in these areas will be held later, Jena added.
Jena said the meetings scheduled with students and common people for Rahul were “regular ones”.
Subhankar Sarkar, the AICC in-charge for Odisha, told mediapersons that Rahul’s meeting with the students which was earlier scheduled to be held at the OUAT had to be shifted to Nehru Yuva Kendra for security reasons as per the advice of the SPG.
“Rahulji is an asset for the Congress and the country as well. Odisha has a very special place for the Gandhi family,” he said.
The party does not want to project the young leader as someone opposes industrial development, sources in the Congress said. He would like to stick to his ‘youth icon’ image, the sources added.
