Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi arrived here this morning on a 2-day Odisha visit. He was accorded a warm welcome at the airport by party leaders, workers and supporters.
PCC president Jayadev Jena, AICC Odisha in-charge B K Hariprasad and leader of the Opposition Bhupinder Singh were among those who welcomed the Gandhi scion at the airport.
Rahul who headed straight for Bhatpada near Salepur in Cuttack district to address a public meeting will be holding road shows along the way.
A large number of women and young people were found waiting to have a glimpse of the leader at the Medical Square, Rajbhawan Square, Kalpana Square and Rasulgarh Square during the road show.
A huge crowd has already gathered at the venue of the public meeting at Bhatpada, reports said.
Security men had a tough time handling the crowd in Cuttack city as hundreds of people with flower bouquets and garlands surged to meet with the de facto prime ministerial candidate of the Congress.
At places Rahul was seen obliging party workers by coming out of his car and shaking hands with women and children and receiving flower bouquets and garlands from them.
At Pira Bazar near Cuttack he was received by a huge crowd along with local Congress leaders like Mohd Mokim and others.
Rahul has been largely successful in achieving his goal of public contact during the road show. Roads have been kept free of other vehicles for this high profile visitor whose motorcade consists of forty cars packed with security men and senior Congress leaders.
